Bas Hoebink

My Bio

It’s all in the name… I’m Bas and I play the bass. I picked it up at the age of 15 and ever since… I can’t live without.

basDrum and Bass
Martin played a great role in my musical journey. When I joined the band Symmetry, me and the guitarist already played some instrumental music with Martin. In those few sessions I already noticed our musical tastes were quite similar. When Symmetry needed another drummer, Martin was on top of our list. We played years together. And now that Symmetry has ended, I join Martin again with the Barstools. Life takes strange courses, but this is definitely one of logic.

Bass history
After a few four-strings I took on the challenge of a six-string bass. And when I played a fretless… well, how can I describe this? It felt like coming home! I started with a fretless 6-string Aria Pro II which I played throughout all my years with Symmetry.
I never really had that perfect sound I was looking for until I played a custom bass from Rikkers (Groningen, The Netherlands). They built me a fretless 5-string bass: American (medium wild) cherry body, wengé neck, Kent Armstrong soapbars and Aguilar electronics. It looks amazing and the sound is awesome! This beauty is plugged into a Glockenklang Heartrock amp. I like it’s direct sound. I use an EBS Multidrive, an EBS Octabass, a Boss Chorus, a Korg tuner and a Boss volumepedal.

Tony Levin

My bass-hero is Tony Levin. His melodic approach together with the solid foundation he delivers, is phenomenal. Whether he plays with Peter Gabriel or solo. To me, he always gives the music that special vibe. Wow!!!
I hope to make some great music with The Barstool Philosophers! Let’s kick some ass!!!
